This core barrel is especially designed for taking undisturbed sample of soft and easily eroded materials, without washing out the core. The inner non-rotating tube, with the outer shoe pressed down into the formation, is lined with very thin plastic tube so that the sample can be recovered preserved.
The sample is retained by a special basket retainer with adjustable and springy fingers which close under the weight of the slipping material. Heat treated shoes are of different length, longer for soft, shorter for medium-hard material. Fully changeable into K3 double tube core barrel, except bit-core-core lifter case-core lifter, which for Denison type are replaced by thin bit outer shoe and basket retainer. To improve the sampling standard (undisturbed) the std shoe may be replaced by a special sharper shoe (Piombino type) without basket and with a collar fixed between liner and advanced shoe
